Telling an Event That is Happening Now (Contoh Ungkapan dan Dialog tentang Peristiwa yang Sedang Berlangsung Sekarang/ Present Continuous Tense)

Hello, eighth or ninth graders. How’s everything? This time you will learn about something happening now. Kali ini kalian akan belajar KD 3.5 & 4.5 yaitu menerapkan dan menyusun teks interaksi transaksional terkait kejadian yang sedang berlangsung di waktu sekarang, lampau dan yang akan datang (continuous tense). Namun kali ini kita akan membahas kejadian yang sedang berlangsung saat ini terlebih dahulu.

Apa yang sedang kalian lakukan saat ini? Mungkin di antara kalian saat ini sedang belajar bahasa Inggris. Apa yang harus kamu ucapkan jika kamu ingin mengatakan “Saya sedang belajar bahasa Inggris saat ini” dalam bahasa Inggris? Mari kita simak penjelasannya. Perhatikan gambar berikut.

Pada gambar di atas, apa yang sedang dia lakukan? What is he doing? Apakah dia sedang menonton TV? Is he watching TV? Ya, dia sedang bermain gitar. He is playing a guitar. Dia tidak sedang menonton TV. He is not watching TV.

Contoh pertanyaan dan jawaban di atas adalah contoh kalimat yang menanyakan dan jawaban mengenai peristiwa atau kejadian yang sedang berlangsung/terjadi saat ini ketika kita sedang berbicara. Dalam tata bahasa Inggris, untuk menyatakan atau menanyakan peristiwa yang sedang terjadi saat ini ketika kita sedang berbicara, kita menggunakan present continuous tense. Let’s dig it up.

We use present continuous tense when we want to ask or tell an event that is happening now.

Ciri utama dari sebuah kalimat yang menyatakan atau menanyakan kejadian yang sedang berlangsung saat ini adalah seperti pada kata yang dicetak tebal dalam kalimat berikut.

A: Is he watching TV now?

B : No, he is not. He is not watching TV now.

A: What is he doing?

B: He is playing a guitar.

Perhatikan kata yang ditebalkan di atas. Apa yang bisa kalian simpulkan?Pertama, perhatikan kata is. Masih ingatkah is disebut apa? Ya, is adalah salah satu to be dari tiga to be yaitu is, am, are.Kedua, perhatikan kata seperti watching, doing, dan playing. Kesamaan apa dari tiga kata tersebut yang bisa kalian temukan? Tepat sekali. Ketiga kata tersebut terdapat imbuhan -ing. Ketiga kata tersebut berasal dari kata kerja bentuk pertama (Verb 1/ V1), yaitu watch, do, play ditambah –ing. Untuk pola kalimat, sila perhatikan gambar berikut.

  2. Where are they now?
  3. What are they doing?
  4. Who is waiting for the bus?
  5. The man says, “I am waiting for the number fourteen bus.” What does this sentence express?

Task 3. Complete the sentences using the right verbs provided.

raining – washing – entering – singing – sleeping

  1. Please, be silent. The baby is ……………….. now.
  2. My mother is ……………….. dishes in the kitchen.
  3. Look! The new student is ………………. the class.
  4. We can’t play outside now. It is …….,………..
  5. Listen! She is ………………. beautifully.

Task 4. Arrange the jumbled sentences into a good dialogue.

  1. Dimas: I am writing a fantasy short story.
  2. Dimas: Thank you.
  3. Dimas: I am writing a story.
  4. Dimas: Of course.
  5. Lena: What story are you writing?
  6. Lena: Hi. What are you doing?
  7. Lena: Wow, that’s amazing.
  8. Lena: May I become the first proofreader?

Task 5. Write a simple dialogue for each picture about an event happening now.

Example:

A: What is he doing?

B: He is playing guitar

You are calling your close friend. You ask him/her about what he/she is doing when you are calling. Then, your friend asks about what you are doing too.
