Hello, eighth-graders. How’s everything? Hopefully, everything is great.Today, we will compare the social function of recount texts.

Hari ini kita akan belajar membandingkan fungsi sosial dari dua teks recount?Dalam keseharian, tentu kita tidak pernah lepas dari aktivitas membandingkan sesuatu hal dengan hal lainnya. Tentu tujuannya agar kita dapat menilai dan memilih mana yang lebih baik atau mana yang lebih cocok untuk kita. Pada saat membandingkan dua teks recount tentang pengalaman pribadi, kita juga dapat menilai pengamalan mana yang lebih baik dan cocok untuk kita.

Baik, kita mulai dulu pembahasan kita dengan mengingat kembali tentang fungsi sosial dari teks recount. What is the social function of a recount text?

The social function of a recount text is to tell past events, e.g. personal experiences.

Kalian juga perlu tahu bahwa bicara tantang fungsi sosial tidak hanya membicarakan tentang tujuan dari teks recount (the purpose of recount text), tetapi juga membicarakan tentang hal berikut.Aspek dari fungsi sosial teks recount

  5. Peran dan fungsi penulis

1. Topik (Topic)

Topik merupakan pengikat gagasan suatu teks. Teks ditulis berdasarkan satu topik utama yang diuraikan dalam beberapa paragraf. Berikut contoh pertanyaan yang berhubungan dengan topik.

  3. What is the text talking about?
  4. What is the text about?
  5. What is the topic of the text?

2. Menentukan tujuan (Purpose)

Semua teks memiliki tujuan. Semua penulis pasti memiliki tujuan saat menulis teks. Penulis teks recount bertujuan untuk menceritakan peristiwa yang terjadi pada waktu lampau, misalnya pengalaman pribadi (personal experience). Berikut contoh pertanyaan terkait dengan tujuan.

  3. From the text, we know that the writer intends/wants to …
  4. The text is intended to …
  5. The writer’s intention to write the text is …
  6. The writer wrote the text (in order) to …
  7. The text is written to …

3. Menentukan manfaat/ dampak/ akibat

Membaca memberikan banyak manfaat. Membaca cerita tentang pengalaman pribadi dapat memperoleh pengetahuan baru yang belum kita ketahui.

Masih ingat teks recount tentang liburan ke Bali? Dengan membaca cerita tersebut mungkin di antara kalian ada yang semula belum tahu tentang Teluk Penyu, Pasar Sukowati, dan tempat wisata lainnya di Bali menjadi tahu setelah membaca cerita tersebut.

Mungkin di antara kalian ada yang memiliki rasa penasaran yang tinggi sehingga saat membaca cerita liburan di Bali dan membaca Teluk Penyu terdorong untuk googling tentang Teluk Penyu. Rasa penasaran itu yang membuat kamu jadi tahu banyak hal yang semula belum kalian ketahui.Saat membaca cerita kita juga dapat memetik pelajaran atau hikmah dari kisah pengalaman tersebut.

Sebagai contoh, saat membaca cerita tentang pengalaman mengalami kecelakaan dan menabrak orang lain hingga terluka karena melanggar lampu merah, kita dapat memetik hikmahnya bahwa mematuhi peraturan lalu lintas tidak hanya demi keselamatan diri sendiri tetapi juga demi keselamatan orang lain.Berikut contoh pertanyaan yang berkaitan dengan manfaat/dampak/akibat setelah membaca suatu cerita.

A Trip to the Zoo

Yesterday I went to the zoo. I went with my mum and dad. We went there by car. We took an hour to arrive at the zoo.

When we got there, we went to the shop. At the shop, I bought some food for the animals.After getting the food we went to the giraffe house. I fed the giraffes some leaves. They ate greedely.

Before having lunch we went for a ride on an elephant. It felt amazing. After lunch, we fed some birds in the park.

At the end of the day, we went home. I was really tired but it had been a great day.

SNOW DAY

It was a cold morning in the middle of Winter when I woke up and looked out the window. I rubbed my eyes and as I started to wake up, I saw that the ground was covered in snow. Light, fluffy snowflakes were floating in the sky, twirling and dancing before landing gently on the ground.

I leaped out of my bed and got dressed as fast as I could before running down, the hall and out the front door. As the cold air hit my body, I discovered that I had forgotten my Winter clothes. I quickly ran back inside and pulled on my mittens, hat, scarf, and jacket before returning outside.I had been looking forward to this day for so long.

The first thing I wanted to do was build a snowman. I still felt cold, but I didn’t care. I created an enormous snowman with rocks for eyes and a carrot for the nose.Just as I was putting the finishing touches on my snowman, I felt something cold thump against my head. A snowball! I turned around and saw my silly brother.

We continued our snowball fight long into the afternoon before finally heading inside for hot chocolates.I love the snow!

My Birthday Disaster

I remember my disastrous birthday like it was just yesterday. It was my 13th birthday and I was so excited for my big party. My family and I had spent the whole week preparing the decorations and creating invitations. My mother had spent all morning baking an enormous chocolate cake and it looked absolutely delicious.

All my friends started to arrive after lunch-time, and everyone was playing happily outside the backyard. The clown was standing in front of the cake making balloon animals for all of us when disaster struck.One of my balloons burst with a loud bang.

The noise startled my cat, Lenny, who leaped into the air and bolted straight the cake. It was like a hippopotamus jumping into a muddy river. Brown chocolate cake flew all over the place, completely covering everyone at my party.Everyone was silent. No one knew what to say or do. I remember hearing a quiet giggle come from the group, then another and another.

Before long, the entire party was completely in stitches, laughing and laughing.We spent the rest of the afternoon licking the chocolate mixture off our clothing and laughing about the time the cat jumped on the cake.

Although the day didn’t go exactly as I expected it to, I had a lot of fun at my crazy birthday party and I know that I will never forget that day.
