Expressions of Making and Accepting an Apology (Contoh Ungkapan dan Dialog Meminta dan Memberi Maaf)

Hello, seventh graders. Pleased to meet you again with a new topic. Today we are going to learn about aplogizing. Kali ini kita akan belajar KD 3.1 & 4.1 dengan sub-tema 4, yaitu tentang permintaan maaf atau (apology). Are you ready to study, Dears?

Semua orang pasti pernah melakukan kesalahan kepada orang lain, entah sengaja atau tidak sengaja. Karena kesalahan tersebut terkadang hubungan kita dengan orang lain menjadi sedikit terganggu. Mungkin saling marah, jengkel atau bahkan dendam.

Untuk memperbaiki hubungan yang terganggu atau untuk menjaga hubungan agar tetap baik, maka sebaiknya setiap kali melakukan kesalahan kita harus menyampaikan permintaan maaf kepada orang yang bersangkutan. Apakah selama ini kalian sudah dapat melakukannya dengan baik? I hope so.

Apology is used to maintain good relationship with others.

Pertanyaan selanjutnya adalah ungkapan apa yang biasanya kalian gunakan ketika kalian ingin meminta maaf? Ya, ungkapan yang paling umum digunakan untuk meminta maaf dalam bahasa Indonesia adalah “Maaf” atau “Saya minta maaf” dan dijawab “Tidak apa-apa.” Lalu, bagaimana ungkaoan permintaan maaf dan jawabannya yang umum digunakan dalam bahasa Inggris? Baiklah, kalian perhatikan terlebih dahulu contoh ungkapan berikut yang digunakan untuk meminta maaf (make an apology) dan menerima permintaan maaf (accepting an apology).

Here are some expressions that are used to make an apology.

  1. Sorry. (Maaf.)
  2. I’m (so/terribly) sorry for… (Saya benar-benar minta maaf karena/atas ….)
  3. Pardon. (Maaf.)
  4. Pardon me for this …(Maafkan saya karena/atas…)
  5. Excuse me for …(Maafkan saya karena/atas …)
  6. Please, excuse me for …(Mohon maafkan saya karena/atas …)
  7. I apologize for …(Saya minta maaf karena/atad …)
  8. I do apologize for…(Saya minta maaf atas ….)
  9. I beg your pardon (Saya memohon dibukakan pintu maafmu.)
  10. I must apologize for…(Saya harus meminta maaf karena/atas …)
  11. I shouldn’t have …(Saya tidak seharusnya …)
  12. I am wrong. Can you forgive me? (Saya bersalah. Apakah kamu bisa memaafkan aku?)
  13. I’m ashamed of …(Saya malu karena …)
  14. It’s all my fault. (ini semua salahku.)
  15. Please, accept my apology for …(Mohon terimalah permohonan maaf saya.)
  16. Please, forgive me for …Mohon maafkan aku karena/atas ….)

Baiklah agar lebih paham dengan ungkapan-ungkapan di atas, kalian coba carilah kata terkait ungkapan meminta maaf dan tanggapannya yang tersembunyi dalam teka-teki berikut.

Task 1. Find and circle ten words related to making an apology that are hidden in any directions of the following grid.

Ok, Dears. Let me ask another question to you. What should you do if there is someone who asks you an apology? Apa yang seharusnya kalian lakukan jika ada orang yang meminta maaf kepada kalian? Yes, that’s right. You should accept the apology. Kalian sebaiknya menerima permintaan maaf itu.

Dengan memaafkan, hatimu akan lebih bahagia.

Accepting an apology will make you feel happier.

Lalu, apa yang harus kalian ucapkan saat memberikan maaf? Coba kalian perhatikan terlebih dahulu contoh ungkapan di bawah ini.

Here are some expressions that are used to accept an apology.

  1. That’s alright. (Itu tak mengapa.)
  2. Never mind (Tidak apa-apa.)
  3. Don’t apologize. (Jangan minta maaf.)
  4. It doesn’t matter. (Ini tidak jadi masalah.)
  5. Don’t mention it. (Sudahlah, jangan diungkit.)
  6. Forget it. (Lupakan ini.)
  7. No need to apologize. It’s ok. (Tidak perlu minta maaf. Baik-baik saja, kok)
  8. No harm done. (Tidak ada apa-apa.)
  9. No worries. (Tidak usah khawatir.)
  10. No problem. (Tidak masalah)
  11. It’s not important. (Ini tidak penting.)
  12. You should be, but I forgive you. (Kamu memang bersalah tapi saya maafkan.)
  13. That’s alright. (Tidak apa-apa)
  14. It’s all fine. (Semua baik-baik saja)
  15. I understand. (Saya mengerti.)

Bagaimana, kalian sudah mengerti bukan ungkapan yang digunakan untuk meminta maaf dan tanggapannya? Namun, mengerti saja belumlah cukup. Kalian harus bisa mengucapkannya dengan benar agar lawan bicaramu mengerti apa yang kamu ucapkan. Supaya kalian dapat mengucapkannya dengan benar, kalian kerjakan Task 2 dulu. Simak videonya kemudian kamu tirukan dan rekamlah suaramu dan kirimkan kepada guru agar mendapatkan umpan balik.

Task 2. Listen to the exchange in the video and repeat the expressions of making and accepting an apology after the two speakers. Record your voice and send the record to your teacher.

Baiklah, Adik-adik. Kita lanjutkan dengan menyimak dialog pada video berikut untuk menjawab pertanyaan pemahaman isi dialog.

Task 3. Listen to the dialogue in the video to answer the questions.

  1. What is the dialogue about?
  2. What does the girl ask about?
  3. Can the boy show the way?
  4. What does the boy say to ask his apology?
  5. Does the girl give an apology to the boy? How do you know?
  6. What does the boy probably feel after the girl says, “Never mind,”?

Setelah mengerjakan Task 3, semoga kalian lebih paham tentang ungkapam meminta dan memberikan maaf dan cara memgucapkannya.

Selanjutnya agar kalian mampu menggunakan ungkapan meminta maaf dengan benar maka sangat penting bagi kalian untuk mempelajari sttuktur kalimat dari ungkapan menghargai kinerja. Perhatikan contoh kalimat berikut.

  1. I am sorry for coming late. (Saya minta maaf atas kedatangan saya yang terlambat.)
  2. I am ashamed of breaking my promise. (Saya malu karena ingkar janji.)
  3. I am sorry for being rude to you. (Saya minta maaf karena telah bersikap kasar kepadamu.)
  4. I am ashamed of being unfair to you. (Saya malu atas perbuatanku yang tidak adil kepadamu.)

Kalimat pertama terdiri dari frase I am sorry kemudian diikuti for dan coming (V1+ing) dan diikuti late (kata keterangan/ adverb). Kata coming berasal dari kata kerja bentuk pertama ditambah -ing (V1 + ing). Setelah V1+ing boleh diikuti object dan adverb. Jadi pola kalimat pertama ungkapan menghargai kinerja adalah I am sorry + for + (V1+ing) + object + adverb. Contoh ungkapan lain memggunakan pola kalimat ini adalah I am sorry for dropping the glass on the floor (Saya mohon maaf karena menjatuhkan gelas di atas lantai.)

Pada kalimat kedua diketahui bahwa ungkapan menghargai kinerja ini terdiri dari frase I am ashamed of diikuti kata breaking (V1+ing) dan my promise sebagai object. Jadi struktur kalimat kedua adalah I am ashamed of + (V1+ing ) + object + adverb. Contoh kalimat lain yang menggunakan pola kalimat ini adalah I am ashamed of telling a lie to you (Saya malu telah berkata bohong kepadamu).

Pada kalimat ketiga diketahui bahwa ungkapan menghargai kinerja dapat terdiri dari I am sorry diikuti for dan diikuti being dan late (kata sifat/ adjective). Jadi pola kalimat ketiga adalah I am sorry + for + being + adjective. Contoh kalimat lainnya yang menggunakan pola kalimat ini adalah I am sorry for being impatient (Saya minta maaf karena tidak sabar).

Dari kalimat ke empat diketahui bahwa ungkapan menghargai kinerja terdiri dari I am ashamed of diikuti being dan adjective. Contoh kalimat lainnya yang menggunakan struktur kalimat ini adalah I am ashamed of being immature (Saya malu telah bersikap tidak dewasa).

In conclusion, after for/of is followed by V1+ing or being adjective.

  3. For + being + adjective
  4. Of + being + adjective

Baiklah adik-adik, tiba saatnya kalian berlatih untuk membuat kalimat sendiri yang digunakan untuk menghargai kinerja.
